Meet The Maker: Ken Pierce, Master Distiller

Ken Pierce joined Six Mile Creek Distillery, the new home of Heaven’s Door, in 2016 as Master Distiller. He’s since played an integral role to the design, startup, and ongoing operations of the Heaven’s Door Distillery.
Ken brings over 40 years of experience in the beverage industry to his role as Master Distiller at Heaven's Door. His journey in spirits began with Barton Brands of Georgia, where his expertise and dedication led to his transfer to Bardstown, KY. There, he joined the distillery now known as Barton 1792 Distillery. In Bardstown, Ken served as Senior Chemist, Chief Chemist, and Director of Distillation and Quality Assurance before being named Master Distiller.
Throughout his tenure at Barton, Ken trained under three previous Master Distillers, gaining comprehensive knowledge and skills in bourbon production. He played a pivotal role in the development of 1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and other limited release expressions. His responsibilities encompassed every aspect of bourbon production, from evaluating incoming grain to selecting mature whiskey.
Ken's extensive experience and passion for whiskey make him an invaluable asset to Heaven's Door, where he continues to uphold the brand's commitment to quality and innovation in the craft of distillation.
"The production process at Heaven’s Door is proud to be quality and sustainability focused. We are proud to announce that our facility has been awarded the energy star, 94 points, by the EPA, making us one of the most sustainable distilleries in the country. Quality is derived through our staff and equipment, as well as benefits from our sustainability focus with care in procurement, and attention to process. Our ingredients are non-GMO and largely contracted with local farmers through mills just 15 miles away. Our barrels are sourced from like-minded cooperages with dedication air drying, wood fueled toasting and charring, and attention to wood selection. This comes at a premium price and a commitment in time and energy and is absolutely worth it."

Additionally, my meal was not prepared as requested, further adding to my frustration. Overall, the experience lacked the efficiency and attentiveness I have come to expect from a fast-food establishment. I hope they can improve their service to enhance the overall customer experience.
